creative management in Rotterdam

The maintenance of public space, with its flowerbeds and borders, patches of grass and gardens is traditionally seen as a cost. For Creatief Beheer (Creative Management) these green spaces form the places of opportunity in the city: a healthy city has healthy outdoor space.

Rini Biemans & Karin Keizer are the founders of this wonderful and exciting group of committed changemakers.

The practice is orientated towards the development of green spaces which stimulate interaction in the neighbourhood. By this we mean the 'natural' interaction between people, plants and animals.

My role was to stimulate and invite neighbours to contribute in their own way.

Together we learn from nature & get inspired!

Some examples of activities:

  • don't worry BE smoothie! This workshop is about blending healthy smoothies with use of local produce. It revitalizes our taste buds and it’s a lot of fun!

  • happy to knit:  Knitting for the community. Knitting as a meditation, to quiet the mind and refocus energy on something positive, enjoyable and challenging

  • community cook up: this workshop is about cooking a healthy lunch together using local produce and community knowledge. It can have variety of themes such as: Soup Stories, Men in the Kitchen, No Worries Curries, Less than 50 Miles Dinner, Knapsack Picnic

  • community table cloth: we use second hand fabrics to create a very big table cloth, handy for picnics or cook ups. On this patchwork everybody leaves their own mark.
